Happy New Year!

So for the past two years I’ve blogged about my food-related goals here and here. I find it to be a fun exercise and a nice way to try and keep myself accountable throughout the year.  It’s always fun for me when I revisit my goals throughout the year to see what I’ve accomplished and what I’ve totally forgotten about. This year in addition to food-related goals I’ll add some blogging goals to the list as well.

Here are my goals for the upcoming year…

Better photos – totally easier said than done, but it’s one of my goals.  Now that I have this fancy new camera I have no excuse to take crappy photos. I’m going to learn how to use my camera and also start experimenting with staging… I’m forever super lazy with that.

Use my cookbooks – I have A LOT of cookbooks as evidenced by this list of 61 (which is outdated and I’ve since acquired more). Truth is, I have maybe 10 or 15 that I use regularly. This year I want to cook at least ONE thing from every book. I have entire books that I’ve never cooked a single thing out of. That’s a shame.

Experiment with charcuterie – As I learned, making bacon was a breeze. I’ve heard before that bacon is the gateway meat to charcuterie… I totally believe this. I now have an urge to try making all sorts of sausages etc.

Make more cheeseMaking ricotta and homemade paneer was so easy that now I want to make other cheeses. Next up on my list is mozzarella once I acquire all of the ingredients.

Use food for health – This year I’ve found new ways to integrate food into my overall health/beauty regimen.  I’ve been using coconut oil on my skin and have turned my apple cider vinegar into a toner.  Recently I started drinking a glass of water with a 1/3 of a lemon in it with great results.  I would love to find new ways to integrate foods into my overall health/beauty plan.

Bake more bread – This was a goal that I fell short on this year and the year before.  I’ll change that this year.

Experiment with vegetarian and allergen-free options – There was a time when I was all about vegetarian cooking and baking without common allergens (dairy, wheat etc).  While I’m not vegetarian and I don’t have overt allergies I’d like to expand my repertoire (and use some of my cookbooks!).

Add new features to the blog – I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile to spice up my content.  I love the idea of featuring friends and generally awesome people and having them talk about what they ate throughout a particular week.  Hit me up if you want to participate!

Learn more about wine – I’ve had a great time learning about local (Ontario) wines over the past year.  I’d like to continue learning more about Ontario wines while expanding my knowledge of wines from around the world.  It’s a tough job but I’m willing to step up to the plate.

Grow more produce – I live in an apartment with a balcony.  Last summer I had a pretty healthy herb garden.  This summer I want to grow a larger variety of produce.  I have already planted garlic for the upcoming season.

What are some of your food goals for 2011?

  1. These are wonderful food goals! I love the idea of having food goals, probably easier to keep compared to other “typical” new year’s resolutions, hehe.

  3. Hey Tonya
I love your food resolutions for 2011!
You mentioned experimenting with vegetarian options as well as featuring friends on your blog. I am a vegetarian cook dedicated to proving to people that vegetarian food can be delicious. I’d love to share some healthy recipes on your site : )

    Happy New Year!
