Thai Grilled/Fried Fish with Coriander-Chili Sauce
A few weeks ago while at Costco I bought a package of tilapia. Now tilapia is not my favourite fish at all but I was making fish tacos (and new I’d be making them often) so I bought a pack. Of course I now feel responsible for finding other ways to cook tilapia. I’ve found a few recipes which I’ll obviously make and blog about but I decided to start with this Thai recipe courtesy of .
This recipe is ridculously easy and perfect for a lazy weeknight when you still want something flavourful. Cooking here is minimal. You only cook the fish, the sauce is no-cook! With that said, since the sauce has some potent ingredients the no-cook sauce can be intense. If you don’t like a strong onion flavour I would definitely either use a milder onion or use less. You could even take the amount of sugar up a bit (or let the onion sit in the sugar for a bit first) to mellow out the onion flavour. I’d also recommend doing the sauce a bit in advance to let the flavours blend. The longer, the better.
Once your fish is fried or grilled (I opted to fry) you just top the fish with the sauce and you’re good to go. Like I said, ridiculously easy… and tasty. This is totally my new lazy night meal. I think it would be worth trying the sauce with some quick sauteed shrimp or even on top of chicken.
Grilled/Fried Fish with Coriander- Chili Sauce
(Pla Krapong Paw)
¼ Medium red pepper, finely chopped
¼ Medium onion, finally chopped
1 tbsp finely chopped fresh Coriander
1 tsp Sugar
1 tsp Chili-Garlic sauce

3 tbsp Soya sauce
1 tbsp Vegitable oil
1lb skin on or off, boneless fillet (I used tilapia)
Wedges of lemon
Fresh coriander leaves
2 ½ cup of steamed rice
1. In a small bowl combine chopped red pepper, onion and coriander with sugar, chili-garlic sauce and oil. Beat a little to blend, reserve
2. Grill or fry the fish. Transfer to a serving plate and dress with several tablespoons of the reserved sauce. Stick wedges of lemon on the side and top with coriander leaves. Serve immediately with the remainder of the sauce in a side bowl and accompanied by the steamed rice.

To get rid of sulphur taste in onion, soak it in lemon or lime juice. I do this for a Greek watermelon salad I make where the onion is completely uncooked and it mellows it terrifically.
I might try this with turbot, as I have a terrific quantity of it.
I’ve been meaning to leave a comment about this recipe for over a year. My GF introduced me to this dish back in 2010 and I loved it. I loved it so much that I’ve made it 20+ times. During an 8 month “visit” to NY I made it for my mom, then she made it for one of her sisters, and her sister made it for her BF, and my brother made it for his wife..etc, etc, etc. Basically, this recipe has gone viral within my family and friends. I routinely come to this site when I need a new recipe.
