Welcome to “What’s On My Plate”!
I (Tonya) started WOMP back in 2007 when I was freelancing in the TV world as a way to keep my writing up and keep a sort of electronic recipe box. Over the past 5 years WOMP has become a space where I share the recipes of others, my occasional concoctions, where I’m eating in Toronto, what I eat when I travel, the updates on my balcony garden and even some of the gadgets that I have my eye on. It has also been a great way to interact with food lovers and bloggers near and far.
When it comes to food a quick search on my blog will show that I’m open to eating most things (although I do not love cucumbers or raisins) and that I love to make things from scratch. To-date I’ve made my own vanilla extract, bacon, sausage, preserves and there is much more on the horizon! I’m a fan of “real” ingredients and I love butter and cream. I also don’t know what a calorie is. I think you’re supposed to collect them… like points (as my friend Adjoa suggested). I have a passion for all things local and try to eat seasonally as much as possible.
I was born and raised in Toronto (where I currently live) but spent 6 years living in NYC (I earned a B.Sc. in Journalism/Communication Studies from NYU) and spent almost half a year studying abroad in Paris. I spent about 4 years working in TV production but made the switch to marketing. Now I’m pursuing my MBA at the Kellogg School of Management and Northwestern University.
When I’m not thinking about food, writing about food, or working with food (yes, my 9 to 5 involves food on too!) I’m freelance writing for magazines, doing yoga (Ashtanga, please.), watching Full House or Property Virgins, checking out The Twitters, reading, making Excel spreadsheets (I’m a Virgo, what can I say), having dance parties for one (likely to Beyonce) or planning a trip
Enjoy WOMP and if you need any more details about recipes, general advice, appropriate brand collaborations or if you want me to whip you up a batch of something don’t hesitate to send a note to me at or follow me on Twitter.

My Amazon Store
darling, i just remembered you had this. so amazing!
This is awesome!!!! So this is what has been keeping you busy the last couple of weeks. Hee hee… Yum. Although now I’m hungry again after looking at all the delicious pics even though I just had lunch. Anyways I’m continuing my obsession with making pies. I’ll let you know how it goes!
I saw your entry on Chowhound and spent over an hour looking over your blog — so lovely. I commented thusly on CH and it was removed, perhaps before you got a chance to see it. Just wanted you to know you’re appreciated.
Thank you! Chowhound always removes posts!
Chowhound always removes my posts as well – don’t sweat it. They think I care enough to try and sell shit there. Honestly, trying to convince a foodie to believe anything beyond their own opinions is futile. So over chowhound and their daily emails I’ve “unsubscribed” from twice with no positive effect.
Loving the site.
I found you. I’m going to add to my bookmarks for when I get the interweb. Interesting stuff Ms. T.

I am so glad I have discovered you web site! It is amazing!
Tonya, your recipes look great! Had to check out the Garbanzo Garlic Soup (I make one with cauliflower in it too)… And, of course, your sweet potato gnocchi, since it was listed on Foodbuzz’s Top 9. (Congrats on that!)
Blessings,
Jen
Thanks so much Jen!
Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up.
The words in your post seem to be running
off the screen in Opera. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with
internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you
know. The layout look great though! Hope you get the
issue solved soon. Thanks
